Hungersnot in Niger

Finbarr O’Reilly, a Reuters photographer based in Senegal, has won the World Press Photo of the Year 2005, announced February 10, 2006, with this picture of a mother and child at an emergency feeding centre. The prestigious competition is the world’s largest annual press photography contest. Jury chairman of the World Press Photo 2006 contest James Colton described the winning image as such, “This image has everything – beauty, horror and despair.
